Bishop Presides Thanksgiving Mass in Honor of John Paul II’s Canonization

San Carlos City, Pangasinan - Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas lead the Mass in line with the canonization of the former Pope and now Saint, John Paul II at the Chaplaincy of Saint John Paul II in Aponit last April 27, 2014 at exactly 5pm. His sermon focused on the life of the saint and his visits on our country in 1981 and 1995.

He highlighted on the sayings of Saint John Paul II stating that the people should proclaim the Word of the Lord which was the first message of the newly canonized Saint. Second was, and one of his most known remarks, do not be afraid. Bishop Villegas teased that he knows that the people of San Carlos are fearsome, tagged with the name “amputi layag.” But he reminded them that bravery is not enough to relay the Word of the Lord; we should all be faithful for we will eventually come back to the House of our Father, as Saint John Paul II’s third message.

As the Mass came to an end, the Bishop instructed the residents of Aponit to not only construct a Church of stone, but to build a strong Faith. A celebration and  thanksgiving feast took place afterwards. (Lyle Lemuel M. Garibay/LingayEdTawag)
